About Us: Orion Additive Manufacturing GmbH is a leading 3D printing company based in Berlin, Germany, focusing on the development of advanced additive manufacturing processes and materials for space applications. We are currently seeking a talented and motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our team and help with our hardware development.

Role Overview: We are looking for a skilled Mechanical Engineer to carry out mechanical engineering duties such as CAD modeling, prototyping, mechanical assembly, 3D printing, testing and production. The ideal candidate will have experience in designing and building machinery, working with composites, and preferably with FDM/FFF 3D printing technology. This role will involve a variety of tasks related to the development and optimization of high-performance 3D printing systems and components.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and test 3D printing systems and subsystems capable of operating in high-temperature environments. This includes designing and testing components made from advanced materials.
  • Work on the integration of various subsystems into a comprehensive additive manufacturing system, ensuring seamless operation and reliability.
  • Produce initial prototype parts and conduct pilot production runs to refine manufacturing processes. Implement stringent quality control measures and perform extensive testing.
  • Apply innovative solutions to overcome technical challenges and continuously improve the design and functionality of 3D printing systems.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Proven experience in designing and building machinery.
  • Experience working with composites is highly preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with FDM/FFF 3D printing technology is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and materials science.
  • Proficient in CAD software (e.g., Solidworks, AutoCAD).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Working Conditions & Hours:

  • This is a full-time position, expecting 40 hours per week
  • Due to the hardware-centric nature of the role, we require candidates who can work in-person only to be able to test the software and hardware integrations.
